For a cracked or broken tooth, when two visits and a temporary crown do not suit you.
A same-day crown is designed and milled here from a digital scan of your tooth, instead of being made at a dental lab over a few weeks. Where the tooth allows it, that means one appointment, one freezing, and no temporary crown to look after.

Exam and X-ray
Dr. Malik checks the tooth and the X-ray and tells you whether a filling, a crown, or a root canal first is the right fix. Some teeth are better served by a lab-made crown, and he says so before you book.

Preparing the tooth
We numb the area properly, take out the decay or the old filling, and shape what is left so a crown fits over it. Nitrous oxide is there if you are nervous, and we pause whenever you ask.

Digital scan
A small camera scans the prepared tooth, the teeth beside it and how you bite together. No tray of impression material, and the shade is matched against your other teeth at the same time.

Designing and milling
The crown is designed on screen from the scan and milled out of a ceramic block in the office. You can wait in the chair or step out; nothing is happening in your mouth while it runs.

Fitting and bite check
The crown is tried in, adjusted, then bonded to the tooth. Dr. Malik checks how it meets the teeth above or below it and keeps adjusting until it feels right when you bite and slide.
What it costs, and who pays.
A same-day crown is usually one longer appointment rather than two, and there is no separate lab fee inside the cost. Insurance treats it like any other crown: most plans cover part of it, often with a yearly limit, and many ask to approve it in advance, which means the appointment is booked once the approval comes back.

Is a same-day crown as good as one from a lab?
For most back teeth, yes. Milled ceramic is strong and the fit comes off a digital scan. For a front tooth that has to blend with the teeth beside it, a lab can layer porcelain by hand, and Dr. Malik will tell you when that is worth a second visit.
Can every tooth have one?
No. If too little tooth is left, if the gum needs to heal first, or if the colour match is complicated, a lab-made crown is the better answer. You are told which before the appointment is booked.
Does getting a crown in one visit hurt more?
No, it is the same preparation as any crown, done under one freezing instead of two. The tooth can be sensitive for a few days afterwards, which settles.
How long am I in the chair?
Longer than a filling, because the preparation, the milling and the fitting all happen in one sitting. Ask when you book and we tell you what to set aside.
